Hello there everyone! ^w^ I thought for my very 'useful' blog I'd run through the basics!
I'm going to go from head to toe with average fairy kei! ^^
Hair
I find that hair is actually a big part of fairy kei, believe it or not. Cutesy (or kawaii) hairstyles such as buns, bunches and pigtails that resemble children's hairstyles are a good idea to kawaii up your look especially if you haven't got dyed hair or a wig ^^ Pastel hair colours are always a win so if you can't dye your hair and want pastels in your lovely locks, investing in a wig is the best option x3
In the hair lots of bows and clips and cute accessories are worn! Mainly bought in the children's section of accessory and or clothing stores. These really do make a difference :3 Even if its just two pink clips (that's what I do on down days xD) accessories are a must!
Face
Makeup isn't that important, fairy kei likes to capture how little girls dress so don't go over board! A little concealer, BB cream, maybe foundation, eyeshadow in cute colours, lip balm, sparkly lip gloss, possibly falsies and blush is really your choice, if you decide to wear eyeliner, keep it thin and almost natural looking, you don't see 6 year old girls with cat eyes now do you? Face gems are actually really common to look kawaii! Piercings are okay if they don't make you look scary ^^
Neck
Necklaces and scarves are quite common in fairy kei, majority of which are again childish style :3 Things like hello kitty and polly pocket necklaces might not seem stylish when seen on a regular outing but with fairy kei, they are the equivalent of jewels! I have also seen girls with earmuffs just hanging round their necks and found it super cute! So my panda earmuffs stay there a lot xD
Torso
This is a bit less important in the style, just regular cute t shirts and cutsews in pastel colours! Little motifs and characters does boost the fairyness! Things like hello kitty, strawberry shortcake, rilakkuma, Disney, kawaii food e.c.t. Try to avoid showing off boobs as well (had to be said ^^;) On colder days just throw on a cute cardigan or kawaii knit jumper, a few badges help to make it seem more fairy kei ^^
Arms and hands
Again going into something that 'makes' the fairy kei! Beaded bracelets, wrist cuffs in cute colours, hair scrunchies around wrists, plastic rings, tea party rings (cakes and tea cups) and nails painted! It may seem like a lot of jewellery but its important! Also try and keep each hand even so the same width of bracelets and stuff, arm warmers in winter are cute as well!
Waist and thighs
You basically have three options! Tutu's, Rara skirts or shorts. When I say tutus I mean coloured petticoats, and not those translucent neon blechs from the local multipurpose store. I mean full fluffy pastel explosions of adorablemess tulle skirts. If you don't know what a rara skirt is I shall explain now! The term rara skirt is generally used for frilly or layered skirts reaching just above the knee. Again cute colours, cute colours for basically everything actually xD Shorts or pumpkin pants (the uber cute puffy shorts) in colours that are cute give more of a casual look. When I first started wearing fairy kei, I wore shorts because it got less criticism from my parents :3
Legs and feet
Cute tights, knee high or over the knee socks, leg warmers, LAYERS! Everything in pastels. It's more for winter with all the layers you can cut down in hotter weather, but you want to get some patterns and prints on your legs! Anything goes shoe wise! Canvas sneakers, high tops, uggs, flats, lolita style - you name it, you make it cute colours and you wear it! Customised shoes are the best I find.
This isn't part of what you actually wear, just something you should remember, fairy kei, like any unusual style, will get positive and negative feedback so if you're new to it that's something you should keep in mind, I'll make a post on how to deal with it at some point xD
That's basically it! LONG text :3 I shall now post a couple of photos of girls wearing fairy kei, though you've probably already seen them xD
